My husband John Krikawa, the Chief Technical Officer of Krikawa Jewelry Designs
, has a brother Andy Krikawa, who is married to Jennifer Krikawa. Sound complicated? It's not (we'll leave the other eight Krikawa
siblings out of it!).
So, my sister-in-law Jennifer is also the founder, President and Artistic Director of the Vashon Opera Company
on Vashon Island, just west of Seattle. Jennifer and Andy moved from New York to find a quiet place
to raise their children, but couldn't get away from singing.
Back East, Jennifer, a soprano, sang for several opera companies including the New York City Opera, Virginia Opera, and Connecticut Opera. She appeared on the stage of the famed Carnegie Hall as a soloist for Francisco Scarlatti’s Dixit Dominus.
Andrew Krikawa is a baritone who has performed for a bevy of opera companies including Pittsburgh Opera, Virginia Opera, Opera Festival of New Jersey, and Connecticut Opera. Career highlights include playing the role of Albert in Pittsburgh Opera’s production
of Jules Massenet’s Werther and performing in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
On island, they quickly enmeshed themselves with Vashon’s vibrant music scene. “We realized that the community is really interested in opera at a local level,” Jennifer states. “We felt we were ready to take on the work and care that
an opera company would need and we felt the community was behind us.” Thus, the Vashon Opera Company was born.

But I know the big question on everyone's minds is: Did Krikawa Jewelry make Jenn and Andy's rings? The answer to that is Yes!
