A True Holiday Tale: He Took a Fake Ring, But We're Keeping the Magic Real

The ring he stole was fake.
Our window glass is sad, but we still believe in Good Santa.
Here's why.

I recently installed a beautiful, holiday-themed front window display, with Sara's help.

The kind that makes you slow down as you walk past.
The kind we hadn’t done in years.

And then, someone broke our window.

In the middle of the night, a burglar smashed through the glass, reached into the resisting security glass, and stole a ring from the display.

Here’s the part where the universe added a little irony: The ring was not real.

It was a sample. A stand-in. A decoy.

A beautiful fake meant to tell a story, not to be worn forever. Or ever.

So yes, technically, the joke is on him.

But jokes land differently when you’re staring at a $10,000 window replacement and a plywood-covered storefront where something lovely used to be.

Right now, instead of sunlight pouring through glass and illuminating the holiday gift boxes and promise of something lovely inside, there’s a solid sheet of wood.

Instead of a display meant to inspire love stories, there’s a reminder that trust can be fragile.

And yet.

Here’s the part we want to be very clear about:
We are fine.

We are bummed, yes. Frustrated, absolutely.
But we are not sad. Not really.

Because the thing he didn’t steal is the thing that actually matters.

He didn’t steal the decades of craftsmanship that live in this studio.

He didn’t steal the quiet moments where couples sit together and realize, “This is the ring.”

He didn’t steal the hands that shape metal, the pencils that sketch dreams, or the trust our clients place in us when they say, “Make something that lasts.”

He also didn’t get away with it.

We have clear photos of him inside our showroom.

We have footage of the break-in itself.

And that part is now in the hands of people whose job it is to handle exactly this kind of thing.

What stays with us most, though, isn’t anger. It’s gratitude.

Gratitude that no one was hurt.
Gratitude for the neighbors, clients, and friends who reached out immediately.
Gratitude for the reminder that while glass can be broken, a community cannot.

The window will be replaced.
The display will return, better than before.
And the story of a thief who risked everything for something fake will eventually become exactly what it deserves to be: a footnote.

In the meantime, we’re still here.
Still designing.
Still making rings that are very real, very personal, and very hard to steal.

When that new window goes in, the light will come back in with it.

And with that, we wish a happy holiday to each and every one of you.
Shine on!
